Drama Catch-Up

The first catch-up of 2022! This will include the shows that ended late last year or early this year that I included in my End of Year list but didn’t close out (they’re the ones with the year in the brackets).

Year 2021

Another long year of lockdowns, and a few more dramas watched than last year! My total count for 2021 is 66 dramas and 7 specials/variety shows, plus 14 dramas that aired in 2020 or started late 2020 but weren’t included in last year’s numbers, and 1 drama from 2019. I obviously didn’t do anything but watch dramas this year…

Number count by country:
South Korea – 21 plus New World variety series
Thailand – 21, plus 3 specials (Safe House S1 & S2, and Nadao X Oppo)
China – 9 plus 2 variety shows (Chuang 101 and their Werewolf show)
Taiwan – 4
Philippines – 3 (includes two movies, but they were movies of dramas so they count)
Vietnam – 3 (a new entrant in BL land!)
Japan – 4 plus a special (Zettai BL)
Hong Kong – 1

I only dropped 6 dramas this year, but put quite a few in my Not Interested list. I was a bit more choosy this year, I think. Which is hilarious considering how many dramas I watched.

I was going to have just one list this year, but I’ve decided i’ll split it into two, because I liked a lot of dramas and want them all to be included. Actually, I say that every year… And even with separating the lists, I still have a bunch of honourable mentions, lol. I have listed them in order though, which I don’t always do, but there were some stand outs this year and i want them noticed.

Dishonourable Mention: Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding – There was nothing outright wrong with this, I just feel like it could’ve been better. Although, that’s on me as well because I loved the synopsis so I hoped for something more than what we got.
